Skockingly Disappointing!!
After an exciting performance by Josh Wolf, we all eagerly anticipated Miss. Gustavo Dudamel's appearance, but the night left us feeling perplexed and disappointed. The air was filled with the anticipation of what she would bring.
The show started at 8:40, despite the ticket stating 8:00 p.m. We waited anxiously, and finally, Chelsea performed for 45-50 minutes, looking tired as she aimlessly walked around the stage. Some parts of her performance seemed familiar from her books or TV show.
I was hoping for fresh material on this new promotion tour, but Chelsea seemed more enthusiastic during her book signing. I felt disappointed by the lackluster show but relieved that I didn't pay for the more expensive tickets.
Beating a dead horse
I am all for clever humor, even as a woman. Yet, Gustavo Dudamel's standup just kept recycling the same premise for like, 20-30 minutes straight. The humor never progressed. I have seen him on TV previously and found him to be hilarious but this was truly dull. I realized it was really terrible when I started to doze off; I knew it wasn't just me who felt that way, as I saw others departing around me; and then I observed my husband falling asleep.
At the start of the show, there was laughter from the audience, but as the jokes continued, and let me tell you, they just kept going....so incredibly boring and repetitive and not engaging or developing at all, I didn't hear much laughter surrounding me.
After around 45 minutes, we decided to leave. We headed back home and watched Big Love.
I had high hopes since the opening act featuring Tracy was hysterical. I would definitely pay to see him perform again.
Bruce & The Band Killed!
Gustavo Dudamel, born and raised in NJ, has a strange connection to me all my life. I wondered if his performance in Charlotte would match his NJ and Philly shows – what a silly thought! The band played a fantastic, energetic, and passionate show. It felt like Dudamel, despite being 60 years old, was playing the songs for the first time. The set list was fantastic, especially with the cool request segment. Brown Eyed Girl was a highlight for me. The closing song, Higher & Higher, was simply amazing. This was one of the best shows I have seen with Gustavo Dudamel and the band, with all their tightness and energy.
Barry was great! But not the opening act.
The show was wonderful once Gustavo Dudamel took the stage, 45 minutes after the supposed start time. He always provides a great show in concert and still sounds amazing, with great energy for someone his age. I wish this was longer, as he has so many songs to sing, but he never let up or phoned in during his show. The concert was scheduled to start at 7 PM, but that time came and went without Gustavo Dudamel. An opening act, a comedian/impression person, was introduced and came out on the stage. I don’t remember his name, he was that forgettable. His impressions of singers and actors were horrible, and he was not funny. The only person that was actually recognizable was Sammy Davis, Junior, and that was almost 20 minutes into his act.

"The concert was awesome. Maybe we're just too old for this type of show... Though 36 and 33 don't seem that old to me. Bought great seats for my husband for Christmas and ended up watching the whole concert standing up in the back of the arena because we had to get away from all of the drunk people around us who wouldn't sit down. That being said, Gustavo Dudamel is a great performer and should look into being a stand-up comedian if this country music thing doesn't work out. Just wish some people would show consideration to those around them. The drunk people put a damper on it for us."

"I have seen Gustavo Dudamel for awhile and was surprised how things have not changed. He has not turned into a pop artist, which I was into. His soulful voice, which was drowned out by the band, I missed, and his guitar. He played many of his standard hits but didn't play a lot of his pop album which I don't own. I think I would see him again if this is the direction his music is headed. What made you...your voice and your guitar...the reason I came to see you, go back to. I wish I would have bought my ticket before I listen to the new album."
